Management and Planning in Development Aid Projects 15 Credits

Course Contents

Sub Cours 1. International and Swedish politics for global development, 7,5 credits

During the course students study and question strategies for International and Swedsih Development cooperation and its practical applications.

Content
  • The ideological history of development cooperation
  • International policies and agreements on development cooperation
  • Swedish policies on global development
  • The Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) and its objectives, priorities and methods to lead Swedish development cooperation
  • Examples of Civil Society Organizations (CSO/Non Gevermental Organizations (NGO), their objectives, conflic of interests, roles and methods of work
  • The debate on Swedish development cooperation from a historical perspective, the present and its future and its consequences for international development cooperation.

Learning outcomes
After coompletion of the course the students till have the ability to:
- describe the ideological background to International and Swedish policies on development cooperation
- describe and conclude International agreements and policies on global development
- describe and critically analyze objectives and methods of work among different CSOs/NGOs.

Examination
The examination is made through participation in a group exercise and the results are presented during seminars. Grades are given in the format of fail, pass and pass with distinction.

Sub Course 2. Management and Planning projects, 7,5 credits

During the course students study, analyze and evaluate various types of Development Aid projects.
Methods of project planning are studied and practiced.

  • Analyze, planning and follow up on projects
  • Tools and models for project planning

Learning outcome
After completion of the course students are expected to have the ability to:
- identify needs, prioritize, plan, implement, follow up and evaluate Development Aid work/projects
- independently formulate projects applications
- be aware of and on a basic level use tools and models för project planning

Examination
An individual task will be assigned. Active participation in an additional group exercise is conditional to be able to pass on the individual assignment. Grades are given in the format of fail, pass and pass with distinction

Prerequisites

To be accepted on the course the individual student need to have passed the courses on Global Studies, 30 credits, Ecological perspectives, 15 credits, Strategies for sustainable development, 15 credits or to be a student within a partner University exchange program.
