The Media and Communication Sciences Programme at Jönköping University started in the 1970s and is thereby one of the most well-established of its kind in Sweden.
The Media and Communication Science programme has a strong international perspective and students have good opportunities to both study and do their internships abroad. The programme prepares students with both theoretical and practical foundations in the area of media and communications.
Media and Communication Sciences is more important today than ever before. With roots in both social science and humanities, it is at the core of modern social life.
The Media and Communication Science programme offers three different areas of specialisation:
The areas of specialisation focus on putting the theory into practice, including an independent project and a 12-week internship.
Media Production focuses on producing information in traditional media such as newspapers, television and radio, as well as new forms of media such as the Internet. The area of specialisation is journalistically oriented and includes courses in News Production, Radio Production and TV Production. Internship can be done in companies or organisations in the media sector.
Organisational Communication focuses on the management of communication in organisations. The area of specialisation includes courses in Crisis Communication, Internal Communication and External Communication. Internship can be done in information departments of organisations, companies or public administrations.
Public Relations/Marketing focuses on PR in a broad sense, and specifically on market-oriented communication. The area of specialisation includes courses in Market Communication, Brand Management and Copy Writing. Internship can be done in companies or organisations in the PR sector.
The programme requires three years of studies and leads to a Bachelor of Social Science.
