Teacher Education

Teacher Education in Jönköping is well-known throughout Sweden and dates back to 1947. The School of Education and Communication offers several different teacher education degrees.

Students can obtain a degree in pre-school education, primary school education and single subject education.

The degree in primary school education allows for three areas of specializations: the first one is aimed at pre-school level and the first three years of primary school, the second one is for those who would like to teach grades 4-6 and lastly for those who wish to work in after-school care.

Those who choose to obtain a degree in single subject education may choose between two areas of specialization: one is aimed for teachers of grades 7-9 and the other is for those wishing to work at an upper secondary school level.

School Located Studies

During School Located Studies, the students leave the School of Education and Communication in order to spend a period of time in his/her future professional environment.

School Located Studies remains a common theme throughout the entire teacher education programme. Many of the professional teachers who supervise the students teaching experiences have attended special courses to learn mentoring strategies that increase the quality of the learning experience. It is of course also the student's own responsibility to learn from the impressions gained when working with children and young people.

Teacher education requires between three and five years of studies depending on the educational field.
