Language Requirements

International Degree-seeking Students

The language of study at JIBS is English. All applicants are required to meet the standard English Language requirements corresponding to English B in the Swedish upper secondary school. We accept the following language tests:

  • TOEFL*: with a minimum score of 550 with at least 4,0 in “Written test (TWE)" (paper based), 213 with at least 4,0 in “Essay Rating" (computer-based) or 79 with at least 17 in “Written test (TWE)"(Internet-based). Jönköping University TOEFL code 8487 / Central Admissions Office TOEFL code: 9520
  • IELTS: with an overall band score of 6.0 and no part under 5.0.
  • Cambridge/Oxford (Advanced or Proficiency)
  • University of Michigan ECPE (Examination for the certificate of Proficiency in English)

*The test result cannot be older than two years.

English language test waivers may be given under the conditions outlined below:

  • Applicants with an upper secondary/high school degree where English is the only language of instruction. Evidence must be provided showing the student´s upper secondary tutoring language.
  • Applicants with a Bachelor's degree from a university where English is the only language of instruction, in accordance with the recommendations in the last edition of International Handbook of Universities.
  • Students with 30 higher education (HE) credits from an EU/EEA country or Switzerland where the language of instruction of the course is English. The language of instruction must be clearly stated on official documents.
  • Students with 30 higher education (HE) credits from Great Britain, Ireland, Malta, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Jamaica, or English speaking parts of Canada. The language of instruction must be clearly stated on official documents.
  • Students with a Bachelor's degree (equivalent to a Swedish "Kandidatexamen") in engineering, computer science, computer applications, medicine, pharmacy, science or technology from India or Pakistan.
  • Applicants from the European Union and European Economic Area (EEA) countries. Evidence must be provided showing that the student´s upper secondary English education is equivalent to English B in the Swedish upper secondary school.

Exchange students

All international exchange students must receive a signature from a representative of their home university guaranteeing their fluency in English. Although the TOEFL score is not a formal requirement, all students must have the equivalence of a TOEFL score of at least 550 (paper-based), 213 (computer-based), or 79 (internet-based).
