Biography

Johanna Palmberg is a PhD in Economics at Jönköping International Business School (JIBS). She defe
nded her doctoral dissertation “Family Ownership and Investment Performance" in October 2010. The aim of the dissertation is to study ownership and corporate governance effects on performance in Swedish listed firms. That is, her research interests relates to corporate governance, corporate finance, theories of the firm, transaction cost analysis, and entrepreneurship. She also has an interest in regional and urban economics.

Johanna is a member of CeFEO — Center for Family Enterprise and Ownership. During her time as a PhD candidate Johanna has been a visiting scholar at George Mason University, Fairfax, US (spring 2008) and at University of Vienna, Austria (spring 2009).

Research

Johanna´s doctoral dissertation is within the field of corporate governance. The aim is to study ownership effects on performance in Scandinavian firms. A majority of all firms are owned or/and controlled by a family. This makes family firms important to the economic development. It also makes the analysis of families as owners to an important research question. The dissertation examines effects of the family as an owner on capital allocation, entrepreneurship, investment performance, executive compensation and board structure.
