The School of Engineering has developed cooperation with many parts of the region's businesses by engaging those in a mentor programme called “Host Company Project”. Through the mentor programme valuable links have been created with companies, but also involving them in the education.
The collaboration gives the students the opportunity to have close contact with a company during the education and thereby combine theory with practice. Through various activities such as guest lectures, company visits and project work, the host companies have the opportunity to meet with students and faculty staff from the School of Engineering.
900 students and 60 teachers are in contact with about 500 host companies each year. Through the Host Company Project, the companies in the region have a unique insight into the education system of School of Engineering. The companies' knowledge of future skills requirements contribute to the continuous development of the various courses at the School of Engineering.
The activities also provide businesses with many valuable ideas and food for thought. Some employers in the County of Jönköping could find it difficult to attract well-educated workforce. The Host Company Project is therefore perceived as an excellent base for new recruitment; an opportunity to test the students and form an opinion about their skills, and also taking an active part in shaping them in becoming skilled engineers.
Since the host companies are frequently a matter of discussion among students, it is also considered by the companies as a way to market themselves to future potential customers or employees.
