Industrial Design

This Master's programme provides the opportunity to broaden your knowledge and creativity within the area of industrial design. You will learn more about the whole design process from a human point of view, with a focus on usability, ergonomics, aesthetics, materials and production, as well as drafting techniques and visualisation.

CREATING GOOD IDEAS AND MAKING THEM LOOK GREAT

The courses has an interdisciplinary approach and is guided by the relationship between humans and products. The programme provides students the opportunity to use a variety of tools to quickly visualize ideas and concepts in order to develop their creativity in the design studio and through model workshops. Students also learn to formulate and present ideas and solutions and identify new products and opportunities. A considerable part of this Master's programme is run in project form, implementing sharp projects in collaboration with a company.

TWO TRACKS

The Master's programme is made up of two tracks, each of them running during two semesters/one year. The first year you study the track "The Man and the Product" and you will learn more about design communications, business and ergonomics. The second year's track is called "The Company and the Environment", and you will then focus on sharp projects within the area of industrial design.

PREPARATION FOR WORK OR RESEARCH

On completion of the degree, you will be well prepared for work on industrial design projects, or as a consultant. If you are interested in a career in research contexts, the programme also provides a firm foundation for future research work.

Home Assignment 2012
Background:
More and more people use the bicycle as transportation, Cyclists and motorists often share the space on the road and a contributory cause of that accidents happens, is that cyclists are not visible enough for the motorists. Every year there are a large number of road accidents involving bike riders. Many users equip their bike with lights according to legal requirements, but a major problem is that the lighting is stolen when the bike is parked, that you forget to bring it with you, that it breaks to easy or the battery is over when it´s time to use it. Your task is to make suggestions on how one bike lights can be designed in a smart and innovative way in which user needs are utilized in a satisfactory manner.
Assignment:
You shall design an innovative bicycle lights that meet legal- as well as user's requirements on bicycle lights. The solution should also be designed regarding price, production etc. These include to show:
- How light is attached to the bicycle.
- How it should be designed in view of the technical components.
- In what way your solution avoid the lights being stolen when the bike is parked.
- The practical use of the light.
Report the task as follows:
- 1 A4 describing how you thought in the form of a series of hand sketches.
- 1 A4 describing your proposal in the form of a hand sketch of any manner or style.
- 1 A4 with a short motivation of why you want to study the Master´s programme.
