Information Engineering

Information Engineering (IE) can be defined as the application of an integrated set of techniques for the planning, analysis, design, and implementation of information systems and infrastructures for enterprises and distributed organisations.

IE is closely related to software engineering, focusing on the information aspects of an information & communication infrastructure. In this field, research of the Information Engineering group is focused on concepts, technologies and solutions for optimised information flow and supply of demandoriented information.

This includes two research aspects:

The joint basis for research in both fields are semantic technologies, i.e. ontologies for capturing and structuring knowledge, metainformation as basis for semantic integration or semantic web standards for representing and exchanging semantics in a machineunderstandable way.

The research group has close cooperation with Fraunhofer-Institute for Software- and Systems Engineering (ISST). For more information please visit the homepage of the Information Engineering Group.
