Forskning

Marco Nilsson leder forskningsmiljön Sustainable Societies (SUS) vid Högskolan för lärande och kommunikation. Hans forskning berör främst frågor om sociala rörelser och våldsamma konflikter i internationell politik. Han har forskat t.ex. om svenska jihadister och krigens längd. Nilsson forskar för närvarande även om islam i Sverige, palestinska flyktingar i Libanon, och religionens roll i EU-integrationen av nya medlemsstater. Han har skrivit fler än 30 vetenskapliga artiklar och fyra böcker. Den senaste boken, Jihadism in Scandinavia (2022), sammanfattar flera år av fältarbete med aktiva och före detta jihadister. Han leder för närvarande ett FORTE-finansierat forskningsprojekt: Efter kalifatet – Mobilisering av kvinnor och män i den salafi-jihadistiska miljön i Sverige.

Biografi

Marco Nilsson är docent i statsvetenskap och sedan 2014 verksam som universitetslektor vid Högskolan för lärande och kommunikation. Från 2010 till 2014 var han anställd som universitetslektor i statsvetenskap vid Göteborgs Universitet. Nilsson disputerade i statsvetenskap vid Göteborgs Universitet i 2010 och innan dess erhöll han MA examen i statsvetenskap från både Duke University (2005) och Purdue University (2002). Han är sedan 2013 styrelseledamot i Sektionen för internationell politik vid Statsvetenskapliga förbundet.
