Siemens AG is a global powerhouse in electronics and electrical engineering, operating in the three sectors; Industry, Energy and Healthcare. The foundation of Siemens AG dates back all the way to 1847 and the invention of a pointer telegraph. The Energy sector is one of the world’s leading supplier of products, services, and solutions for the generation, transmission, and distribution of power and for the extraction, conversion, and transport of oil and gas.

Siemens Industrial Turbomachinery AB is presently in a period with large emphasis on industrialization with requirements for explicity, simplicity and efficiency. The goal of Siemens’ industrialization process is to be able to deliver 100 gas turbines per year with the same work force and costs as for the present rate of 60 turbines per year. The delivery of a new gas turbine involves over 20 000 work transactions between different functions and processes. Siemens Industrial Turbomachinery AB´s organization is today a project based organization where the main part of all materials is handled as project materials. Also items that are manufactured or procured in larger batches are handled per project and we see sourcing models and leadtime reduction as some of the most important topics for reaching our objective in terms of explicity, simplicity and efficiency. For us the most important aspect for KOPtimera is about setting a value on time, support for change based on lead-time focus rather than cost emphasis throughout our supply chain. Leadtime is relatively simple to measure but a standardized way of estimating the improved cost in relation to lead-time reductions is missing and we expect KOPtimera to provide us with support on this in the future.
